Notes from a Talk by Bart Hadaway on Compassion

Guard your heart with all diligence, for it determines the course of your life.

If you say to God ‘I don’t have time to do Your will’, you are out of His will.

You can pray for compassion, but you have to exercise the muscle.

Nothing can stand in the way of compassion. You have been in Cambodia. There is a powerful religious spirit here, but it has not hindered you. So why should you be hindered back home? You don’t have to wait for the atmosphere to be ‘just right’ in order for you to get out on the streets and do the same as what you have done in Cambodia.

We are all in a process of being perfected. You have not ‘arrived’ because we went on a mission. You can do what you have done here in Cambodia at home too.

When you go home, that is where true love gets tested. How do you do? Anybody can love. But our love is refined and tested in the context of close relationship. Your partner and children know better than anyone how good a Christian you really are. How much compassion is there in you when nobody is looking?

You can have all the glory you want everywhere you live. Just act in love. Guard against discouragement. And actively seek ways to use your gift of compassion
